ASIANOVERLAND.NET KATHMANDU TO LONDON DAY 124/36: MAKLI TO KARACHI, PAKISTAN
“23 October, 1980.
Everyone has a trip to the bank between 9.00am - 11.000am. To get money for airfare.
Delirium surrounding receipt of an ‘International Herald Tribune’ bearing news of the World (ie. American) Baseball (rounders) series.
The day Marion took valium, as she thought she might have to give up the trip & spend the rest of her fortune on an operation - a permanent Toiletoplastry.
A L O N G Day spent at banks & other offices & purchase of Karachi-Amman air tickets.
Record consumption of toilet paper by all passengers (except Paiana?).
Oh to be able to fart confidently!
Think I’ll try to arrange to compete with Brian for the title of ‘MR PUNIVERSE’.
KNOW ANYONE LOOKING FOR A ‘SKELETION STAFF’?
WOT IS CONSTIPATION?
Fabulous day synthesising Vit. D by luxury pool (Intercontinental).
Monumental consumption of 1st class protein!
Think I’m beginning to like the good life!”
To put it bluntly, it was stifling hot and humid in Karachi, and everyone had the shits.
Better known as Delhi Belly.
It reminded me of our briefing on the eastbound overland -
“Never Trust a Fart”
I can clearly remember that I was so physically weak in Karachi, I couldn’t cross the road by myself and had to be held up by Corrie, just to get to the bank/student office/embassy/airline office …........ (Corrie says we held each other up, but I know I wouldn’t have made it across the main street of Karachi without Corrie’s physical support, arms wrapped around each other)
The entries in the Trip Book (none of which were made by me, though they express my sentiments) show that nearly everyone except Paiana (who was permanently constipated), had the dreaded Delly Belly.
